(40 points) A liquid mixture containing 65 mol% component A and 35 mol % component B at 70C is separated in a distillation column at 1 atm. The overhead stream passes through a condenser (removes heat from the stream) and consists of a liquid mixture of 98 mol% A and 2 mol% B at 55C. The bottom stream from the column passes through a reboiler (adds heat to the stream) and leaves the column as a liquid with 15 mol% A and 85 mol% B at 98C. Calculate the total heat required (cal/mol) for the system. Does heat need to be added or removed from the system? Thermodynamic data for components A and B at various temperatures is given n Table 1. You may assume that there is no loss of heat to the surroundings and neglect the heat of mixing for components A and B.
