[25 points total] Researchers interested in interpersonal violence surveyed a random sample of university undergraduates using a scale on which higher scores indicate greater approval (less disapproval) of interpersonal violence. They knew males would display at least as much approval of interpersonal violence as females, so they were interested in determining whether or not their data provide beyond- chance evidence that males display more approval of interpersonal violence than do females. They also expected, and found, a slightly greater spread among the female ratings as indicated in the table below.
