(6) The Independent Institute of Education (Pty) Ltd 2023 Page 3 of 6 21;22;23 2023 Question 3 (Marks: 60) Read the following scenario/case study and then answer the questions that follow: You have been hired as a business consultant to advise a Kwazulu-Natal snack food manufacturer called SAsnax, on various aspects of the business. The business was started in 2009 by Mr Ndlovu, who runs the business with his regional managers in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Dundee and Richards Bay. Each branch is supported by a management team consisting of a marketing manager, financial manager and operations manager. The business is profitable, well-funded and has a unique local recipe and flavour formulation. The business has the goal: "To grow the business beyond KZN to become a well-known national snack brand". Mr Ndlovu has always supported local communities the business operates in through donations and youth employment programmes and wants to ensure future growth is not at the cost of the environment. During COVID, the business had to shut down its manufacturing plant and, in the process, lost several key regional staff members with institutional knowledge of the operations process. Additionally, parts to fix the processing machines have been delayed due to supply chain issues in China. Pre-pandemic, the raw materials were only ordered just before they were needed, however lately some orders were not fulfilled due to stock not arriving in time. Note: In your answers, you will be awarded more marks for integrating the theory and facts from the case study than if you discuss them separately. Answers must be related to the business in the case. Q.3.1 Analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the business's micro-environment.
