(3.19) 72,500 lb/h of crude oil are to be heated from 250F to 320F by cooling a lube oil from 450F to 340F. Physical properties of the two streams may be assumed constant at the following values: Property Crude oil Lube oil Cp (Btu/lbm - F) 0.59 k (Btu/h ft. F) 0.62 0.073 0,067 u (cp) p (lbm/ft) 0.83 1.5 47.4 48.7 It is proposed to use a carbon steel heat exchanger having the following configuration: Tubes: 1.0 in. OD, 14 BWG, 24 ft long Number of tubes: 314 : ES Shell ID: 29 in. Baffle type: segmental Number of tube passes: 6 Baffle cut: 20% Number of baffles: 30 Sealing strips: one pair per 10 tube rows Tube pitch: 1.25 in. (square) The crude oil will flow in the tubes, and published fouling factors for oil refinery streams should be used. Is the proposed unit thermally suitable for this service?
