8 (3 pts.) Doughnut. A Krispy Kreme cream-filled donut has 280 Food Calories. There are about 4200 Joules / Food Calorie. Suppose you eat this doughnut and want to "burn" this energy by climbing stairs. Suppose your mass is 70 kg (about 150 pounds). As always, "g" is about 10 m/s. How high would you have to climb to increase your gravitational potential energy by the amount of energy contained in the doughnut? Enter the number of meters. Hint: You should find a number that is larger than the height of a few story building, but shorter than the distance to the moon. Comment: The answer is a large number! In reality you wouldn't have to climb quite so much to burn the calories in the food you eat, because you're converting its energy into other forms also (such as your body heat). Still, this highlights why it's hard to lose weight just by exercising.
