8:46 PM Tue Feb 6 Group Project Introduction Case Study The case that will be analyzed is that of a sixteen year old boy named 'Matthew' from a case study done among students in the United Kingdom (Brett, 2020). Matthew described that he often felt low, tired and did not want to do anything" (Brett, 2020). He did not spend time with his friends or family and began to lose interest in his previous hobby art (Brett, 2020). On top of this, his grades had begun to suffer and had a negative self perception, describing himself as 'shy' and 'miserable-looking (Brett, 2020). Matthew described other symptoms of "fatigue, concentration difficulties, decreased appetite, negative self-perceptions, and suicidal ideation" (Brett, 2020). Matthew also had active thoughts of suicide and had attempted to take his life earlier that month. He also described hitting his legs or other hard objects when angry as a form of self harm Brett, 2020). According to the DSM-5 criteria Matthew experienced a Major Depressive Episode. Matthew has had his symptoms for two weeks due to his confession that he attempted suicide two weeks before his interview (Brett, 2020). Although it can be assumed that Matthew has had these criteria for a while, he did not specify exactly when they started and his family and school had no idea what was going on before this interview (Brett, 2020).
