Matthew described other symptoms of "fatigue, concentration difficulties, decreased appetite, negative self-perceptions, and suicidal ideation" (Brett, 2020). Matthew also had active thoughts of suicide and had attempted to take his life earlier that month. He also described hitting his legs or other hard objects when angry as a form of self harm Brett, 2020). According to the DSM-5 criteria Matthew experienced a Major Depressive Episode. Matthew has had his symptoms for two weeks due to his confession that he attempted suicide two weeks before his interview (Brett, 2020).
