9. Consider the graphical display presented below, in which we are shown how the percentage of adults who use different social media platforms has changed since the Pew Research Center first began gathering data in 2012. What do we call this kind of graphical display?

( Please use graphical display in the link for question 9, I sent you below)

10. Look carefully at the graphical display presented in Question 9. What are three things that you can conclude about social media use from this graph?

Suppose each person who is surveyed by the Pew Research Center is asked to indicate the total number of social mediaaccounts they currently have. They are also asked to indicate which social media platform is their least favorite.

11. Is total number of social media accounts a categorical or a quantitative variable? Please explain.

(Please use the table in the link for question 11, I sent you below)

12. Is least favorite social media platform a categorical or a quantitative variable? Please explain.

(Please use the table in the link for question 12, I sent you below)

13. Look carefully at the table above. Would a bar graph be an appropriate way to display the data from this table? Please explain why or why not.

14. Look again at the table above. Would a pie chart be an appropriate way to display the data from this table? Please explain why or why not.

(Please use the table in the link for question 14, I sent you below, the same table with question 11 and question 12)

This semester, wherever we can, we want to highlight free technology tools and resources that we hope will help you better understand different concepts and ideas. These tools can also sometimes help you quickly generate output or perform calculations. This week, we hope you can spend some time reviewing an applet from the Art of Stats site. This applet allows you to build bar graphs and pie charts. A link to the applet is below, as are detailed directions about its use. Please read carefully through these directions as you work toward answering Question 15 at the very bottom of this page.

Once you open the applet, notice that on the left side of the screen, there is a drop-down menu below where it says Enter Data. If you click the arrow next to "From Textbook," you can select "Frequency Table." Select this so you can enter your data. you'll want to type in a Name of the Variable. Let's attempt to use this tool with a new data set. Suppose that 1,000 teenagers are asked to indicate the one social media platform they use most often. The data obtained from these teenagers is included in the table below. The Name of the Variable would be Social Media Platform. Type in this name. Where it says "Number of Categories," be sure to change the number to 5. The five categories are listed below, along with the relevant counts, or the number of teenagers who selected each platform. Enter this information into the applet.

15. Based on your exploration of this tool, which graphing methoda bar graph or a pie chartwould you prefer to use for this data set, and why?
