INTRODUCTION What should now be apparent is that correctional administration has become very complex. The correctional mission has broadened in scope, and, therefore, the functions that must be performed by staff have increased and are much more intricate. First, the traditional boundar- ies of corrections have expanded. Historically, corrections began after sentencing. However. jails hold presentenced offenders. There are many community bail supervision and other diversion programs. Restorative justice is often the responsibility of correctional officials and includes the sentencing process. Prisoner reentry includes the integration of many community. criminal justice, and correctional activities. Even the long-established role of a prison is not the same as it was a few decades ago.
