1. A 16-year-old girl’s father sues her fast-food employer when he discovers that a 29-year-old supervisor seduced and impregnated his daughter.

“What type of place are you running here, anyway?” John Lochlin screamed at the general manager of the fast-food restaurant where his 16-year-old daughter worked after school. “One of your managers seduced my daughter and got her pregnant. How could you allow such a thing to happen?”

“Mr. Lochlin, I know you are upset,” replied the general manager, “but the company is not responsible for the off-duty conduct of its managers and employees.”

Lochlin looked at the manager in disbelief.

“Company policy strictly forbids salaried employees from fraternizing with hourly employees,” the GM continued, “but I assure you, neither I nor the company had any idea about the manager’s conduct.”

“We’ll see what a court has to say about that,” Cochlin threatened before storming out of the store.

Could the company be held liable for the supervisor’s actions?
