A.A leader from my past who had created out-group subordinates would be my hotel General Manager. I would consider the out-group subordinates our hotel restaurant managers and our in-group would be all the other managers in the hotel (sales, front office, housekeeping and HR). The in-group subordinates would consider our General Manager exactly how it is depicted under the vertical dyad linkage model as having a high-quality relationship and categorize her as a high-high leader. On the other hand, the out- group subordinates were treated severally different and I believe they experienced a low-quality relationship.
B.The behavior the General Manager exhibited to our restaurant personnel was an extreme lack of trust, monitoring employees closely. The restaurant managers felt as if they couldnt trust our General Manager to stand up for them or have their best interest in mind. She also showed a lack of confidence in the restaurant managers by only highlighting recent failures expressed by customers. The General Manager didnt try to promote or renew a drive or passion in the managers in the out-group to help them excel in their job duties. She was very critical of the managers in the restaurant and didnt express any optimism in their abilities to turn around a department.
C.After about 2 years of being treated poorly both restaurant managers resigned within three months of each other. Since then, there has been new restaurant managers in that restaurant every six months. I think this shows how effective management is being partially neglected and her emotional and social intelligence has a negative impact on the out-group subordinates
