Sulphur is also eliminated as CaS to slag. The oxidation is done by addition of iron ore$(85\%$ Fe$2$O$3,15\%$ SiO$2).$The slag carries FeO derived from reduction of Fe$2$O$3,$equivalent to $2\%$ of the iron in the metal charged.
