A chemical plants steam power station has a steam flow rate of 10 kg/s through the boiler. Steam leaving the boiler is at 500C and 10 MPa. The steam expands in a turbine to 3 MPa. 10% of the turbine exhaust steam is supplied to the plant as high pressure process steam while the remainder is reheated to 450C. This steam is expanded in a turbine to 0.5 MPa. 4 kg/s of this low pressure steam is supplied to the plant while the remainder is returned to the boiler via a condenser and feed pump. Saturated make-up water (0.5 MPa) is added upstream of the pump. Draw a schematic flow diagram and sketch the T-s diagram. Calculate heat added in both stages of the boiler. Calculate heat rejected in the condenser. Calculate total work output from the turbines. What is the overall process efficiency?
