A cohort study was conducted over five years to study the association between binge drinking and liver cirrhosis, a form of liver cancer in a population-based sample of adults between 20 to 60 years of age. Among 6614 adults who reported regular binge drinking, 1624 developed liver cirrhosis during five-year follow up. Among those who were not involved in binge drinking, a total of 11890 adults there were 165 new cases of liver cancer diagnosed during this follow up.
