It has been the major drive for DC motor application throughout the century. However, modern electric drive has replaced the usage of the Ward-Leonard system in many industrial applications nowadays. (1) Compare the difference in the implementation of first quadrant speed control (motoring) for a DC motor between a Ward-Leonard system and modem electric drive by sketching the figure of the implementation. In your opinion, which is better? (6 marks) If the operator wants to use a Ward-Leonard system to control the operation of a gantry system, can the motor use regenerative braking to reduce the speed when it approaches the target?
