A crystal of copper sulfate, CuSO4, falls through a large tank of pure water at 20oC. Then, molecular diffusion occurs through a film of water uniformly 0.04 mm thick, surrounding the crystal. At the inner side of the film, adjacent to the crystal surface, the concentration of copper sulfate is its solubility value, 0.023 mole fraction CuSO4 (solution density: 1193 kg/m3 ). The outer surface of the film is pure water. Estimate the rate as kilogram per hour at which the crystals dissolves by calculating the flux of CuSO4 from the crystal surface to the bulk solution. You can use following data: Atomic weights of Cu:63.5, S:32, O:16; limiting ionic conductance of copper in water (at 25oC) is 41.7.
