ScaleLarge Scale or Small Scale? The question of the scale of expansion is a complex one that varies from organization to organization. Advances in technology, particularly in regards to the World Wide Web, allow all sizes of organizations to compete in the global economy. The global marketplace is no longer dened by corporate juggernauts but is composed of an array of organizations from large corporations to small businesses. No longer are organizations forced to set up operations on foreign soil, although many do. Small businesses can take advantage of foreign distribution companies that will take companies' products and place them in overseas markets. Small businesses can also turn to e-commerce to sell to foreign markets. Through the Internet, Business to Customer (BZC) and Business to Business (B2B) transactions can be made easily and instantaneously, without the need for brick and mortar operations. However, one must understand that combining foreign exporting and web technology does include additional costs to the rm. Page 197
