A dentist office gives appointments to customers and assures them that if they arrive on time they will
not wait for more than ,5, minutes before they are seen. In an audit to see if they delivered
on their service promise, the dentist office gathered the following data for service by one dental hygenist. (See blue cells)
The hygenist starts each patient as soon as the chair is prepared for the next patient, i.e., the "Chair Ready Time"
The first patient starts 8:00 AM. Both System Start Time and Process Start time ="0".
Each appointment is on the hour, so appointments are in 60-minute increments.
If the patient arrives before their appointment time, they are on time and the number of minutes early is negative (e.g.,-5 minutes)
If the patient arrives after their scheduled appointment time they are late and the number of minutes is positive (e.g.,=+5 minutes)
The "patient ready time" is the earliest time that the patient can start.
The "System start time" is the time the system is ready to start. It is a conditional statement, so a patient can start before their appointment time or after it.
The "Process Start Time" is the maximum of the "Chair Ready Time" and the "Patient Ready Time"
The "Chair ready time" is the time the hygenist has the room ready for the next patient.
The "Patient Time in System" is the difference between "Process Departure Time" and "System Start Time"
