A Friend of mine (who lives in Europe) works at an EU-based company that sells much ore from Mongolia. He has to travel to Mongolia
A Friend of mine (who lives in Europe) works at an EU-based company that sells much ore from Mongolia. He has to travel to Mongolia a lot to visit suppliers, and after one trip, he mentions, "traveling to Ulaanbaatar has gotten a lot cheaper over the last 10 years. At the beginning of 2010, one Euro bought 1200 Tgrg, whereas today one Euro buys about 2500 Tgrg. My Euro goes so much further now!"
Before responding to my friend, I quickly pull out my phone and look up that total inflation over the 10 years from 2010-2020 was 150% in Mongolia and 20% in the EU. (Those are totals over the 10 years, not per year inflation).
Knowing this is my friend right or wrong? i.e., has it gotten less expensive to travel to Mongolia?
Explain why, and be as numerically specific as possible about how much cheaper and more expensive Mongolia has gotten for an EU-based visitor.
I have attached few links to see the inflation and the exchange rates.
