(a) Preparation: Assume the Lit-axis increases horizontally in the direction of the golf ball's ight and that the y-axis increases vertically upwards. (i) Calculate the initial velocity components of the ball's motion, um and My. (ii) What are the :13- and y-components of the ball's acceleration? (b) Working: Use the constant acceleration equations in two dimensions to answer the following: (i) Calculate the time of ight of the golf ball and therefore show that is equal to 6.8 3. (ii) Calculate the maximum height reached by the golf ball above the point from which it was hit. (iii) Calculate the magnitude and direction of the velocity of the golf ball at the instant it lands. (c) Checking: (i) Check the units in the expression(s) you used to nd the maximum height in (b) (ii), showing that these units work out to be appropriate for a height. (ii) Compare your answer for the magnitude and direction of the velocity of the golf ball at the instant it lands from (b)(iii) with the magnitude and direction of its initial velocity.
