A hardware engineer on a product development initiative (Tablets) came to the CEO with an issue. The new lithium-ion battery associated with tablets ready to be shipped to 20 school districts are problematic. The testing team noted degradation in battery performance after a certain number of charges which cause the tablets to sporadically shut off. Though they have tried, all fixes that have been tested have failed. The hardware engineer is proposing the following to his CEO. "We need to include parameters in the software to slow the processing capacity of the tablet down before the battery ages. That will keep the tablets from becoming unstable and extend the table life to the timeframe agreed upon in the contract with the school districts. We do not have the funds to replace the current batteries and we do not want a bad reputation." The CEO pondered what he had heard before he spoke.
