A health psychologist is interested in the effect of exercise on the perception of well-being among the elderly. She randomly selected people from a retirement home and divided them into two groups. Both groups were encouraged to walk at least half an hour each day. But one group also participated in a structured exercise program that focused on flexibility. At the start of the study, the groups had equal sample sizes, but during the 6 weeks 3 participants in the walking only group needed to withdraw from the study, and their data could not be used. After 6 weeks the psychologist gave questionnaires to the participants so they could rate their perception of well-being. On this scale, a higher score indicates higher well-being (see the table below for participant scores from each group). The scores from participants in each group are given below. The psychologist predicted that the combination of flexibility training and walking would produce higher well-being scores. a) Use a significance level of .05 and complete all 5 hypothesis testing steps to determine the psychologist's conclusion. b) Determine effect size and indicate whether it is small, medium, or large. c) Determine the approximate power. Is it adequate? Explain why or why not. If it is not adequate, determine the sample size needed for each group in order to meet the criteria. *Show all your work.
