A key element in being able to manage the day-to-day execution of a project is having visibility into the current status of every task, and what impact each task is having on every other task into the future. It is up to the project manager to be able to investigate delay sources resulting in project creeps, and correct them using whatever resources and leverage is available. When the project manager learns of creeps, corrections must be reflected in an updated WBS. Without such adjustments, the WBS quickly gets out of sync with the work being done and so becomes less effective as a management tool. Discuss some of the pitfalls that are likely to occur if a WBS is not maintained to accurately reflect the real state of the project as it is unfolding.
