A key feature of this course PMAL 105 is the requirement for students to present their group presentation on the selected Charity fundraising project they have been assigned. Students do not physically carry out the project but use the ideas to develop a project proposal and charter
Instructor will assign students to teams as early as Week 1. Students are required to work with their assigned team to initiate and plan a real-world charity project. You are a member of the class priority project team in charge of evaluating and planning a fund-raising project for a charity organization of your choice. You should assume that these projects would be held at your university.
Teams should use MS Teams and Jira to communication and share resources.
MUST OBJECTIVES
Every project must meet the must objectives as determined by the instructor. There are five must objectives:
All projects must be safe, legal and comply with university policies.
All projects must be capable of earning at least $500.
All projects must be able to be completed within nine weeks.
All projects must be SMART
All projects must provide an opportunity for every member of the project team to experience and learn about project management.
Among the factors to consider for the last objective would be the extent there is meaningful work for every member of the team, the degree of coordination required, the extent the team will have to work with external stakeholders, and the complexity of the project.
WANT OBJECTIVES
In addition to the must objectives, there are want objectives that the instructor would like to achieve. The following is a list of these objectives:
Earn more than $500 for a charity
Increase public awareness of the charity
Provide a resume worthy experience for students
The presentation also allows the students to research other project management methodologies and to analyze the benefits and limitations of using a particular project management methodology.
In concluding this course, it is important to note that this was a course in developing your knowledge of project management, not specifically to teach you how to become a project manager. To become a project manager, especially an effective one, you must use the knowledge gained in this course, and other courses, to become a leader by just doing project management. Like most things, be patient, keep working along, learn from your mistakes, and discover what you could do better next time.
