A Malaysian designer, Mr Mamawee, was en route to Kota Kinabalu to attend an International Trade Exhibition and Marketing Show.

Mamawee is an outspoken critique of the Malaysian government's policies on education and treatment of the minorities and women's rights. His professional works have elements of his personal views.

The Malaysian Government does not condone his critical views and is just waiting for the right time to teach Mamawee a lesson.

Mr Mamawee was detained at the KK Airport in January this year.

At KLIA: He was detained and taken in for questioning and had his personal laptop seized for contents deemed malicious and unlawful.

He is released on bail and told to be present at a police station once a month for re-education.

The Immigration Authority followed up by cancelling Mr Mamawee's international passport.

The Malaysian Institute of Arts and Designs took legal action against the government over the treatment of Mamawee.

The High Court at KL rejected the action against the government for lack of locus standi.

The Malaysian Institute of Arts and Designs intends to appeal to the Court of Appeal and later Federal Court over the dismissal of Mamawee's or Malaysian Institute of Arts and Designs' action by the High Court against the Malaysian Government and the immigration authorities.
