A modern automobile is a complex, multi-physics dynamic system. It has many physical domains and interactions among the domains. Consider a subsystem of this system, to include two or more physical domains from: Mechanical, Electrical, Fluid, and Thermal domains, and having non-negligible dynamic interactions among the domains. a) Describe, with sketches, the main purpose and activities of your selected subsystem b) Sketch a schematic block diagram of the subsystem, indicating its main components and their interconnections. The blocks should represent the basic physical components, and the lines connecting them should represent the signal paths between them. Name the blocks and the lines in the diagram, to identify the various components in your subsystem and the signals that flow between them. The signals may correspond to power transmission (e.g., current from an amplifier to a motor, velocity of an inertia element) or information (e.g., control signals, sensor signals) c) Using the block diagram in Part (b), further describe the operation of your subsystem (to complement your description in Part (a)), with specific reference to the blocks and the lines. In particular, identify the inputs and the state variables (or responses) in your subsystem d) Discuss how one would develop an analytical dynamic model for your subsystem. In particular, indicate the basic model elements that may be used in your model (e.g., electrical capacitors, inductors and resistors; thermal capacitors and resistors; fluid capacitors, inertors and resistors; intertia elements, springs and dampers; and source elements), and two-port elements (transformer, gyrator), which represent the energy transfer between the physical domains, and the corresponding physical domains.
