A Muslim economist, born in Bangladesh in 1940, when his country was part of India and still under British rule, delivering a speech preaching the firm, deep and passionate conviction that a world free of poverty can be created. Bangladesh is the size of Andalusia (Spain) and currently has a population of 145 million inhabitants.

Keep imagining and locate yourself in the 80s. A bank with 3 employees is being created, whose main mission is not to obtain benefits, but to help the wretched of the planet.

This project has selected as the most important part of its experiment the poorest people among the poor of Bangladesh, the most limited group in this country: women. In this culture there is discrimination against women, with an average of 7 children. Women could not leave home or visit their mothers, without the permission of their husbands or in-laws.

One of the main problems will be cultural: women will not want to accept money for fear of being beaten. Also they have never handled money.

As there are no resources, the first office will consist of a shed with a zinc cutting, a table, a chair, two benches and no electricity or telephone.

There is another battle to be fought: to convince conventional banks to lend money to be able to undertake their project. His project consists of lending small amounts of money to the poor without guarantees, based on a system of trust.

QUESTIONS:

a) Is it possible that the idea has been materialized as it has been previously stated? If so, how would the bank visualize it today

b) Or is it possible that it has been implemented with variations? What will those variations have been? If so, how would the bank currently be visualized

c) Or, it is not possible that the implementation of that idea has occurred. In that case, what are, in your opinion, the reasons why the project had failed?
