A project assignment is given to Graduate students to present an application for the statistical methods discussed in class. The intent of the project is to give the student experience in doing outside research, writing a paper, and making a professional presentation to the class. The project should be on a topic that stretches the students' ability in the core competencies of leadership and that is consistent with the requirements of the final capstone project. The project will enable the student to demonstrate his or her proficiency in critical thinking, resources utilization, and effective communication. The project will result in a typed paper of 810 pages in length and a presentation of approximately 15 to 20 slides. This is a graduate level course, so your paper and presentation should be complete and thorough, and should show an elevated level of analysis compared to that of an undergraduate course. In summary, the purpose of the project is to permit students to independently conduct a literature search and present an important application of statistical knowledge. The project should be on a topic that stretches the students' ability in the core competencies of leadership and that is consistent with the final capstone project. The project will enable the student to demonstrate his or her proficiency in critical thinking, resources utilization, and effective communication. Students should concentrate on showing the application benefits, and contrasting those benefits to other methods that might be used to serve the same purpose in Leadership. The intent of the project is to give the student experience in doing outside research, writing a paper, and making a professional presentation to the class. The project should be on a topic that stretches the students' ability in the core competencies of leadership and that is consistent with the final capstone project. The project will enable the student to demonstrate his or her proficiency in critical thinking, resources utilization, and effective communication. The project will results in a typed paper of 10-20 pages in length and a presentation of approximately 15 to 20 slides. Your final paper for this project should include the following elements: - Summary of the business management problem selected and its significance - Translate the management problem into a research problem(s); follow the guidelines for defining a research question - Design alternative approaches to evaluating the problem using quantitative methods; discuss the strengths/weaknesses of several different data collection methods from the information studied in the course - Recommend the quantitative research method that you propose to use for the Capstone course project, and identify the reasons why you feel it will provide the best support for the qualitative decision to be made. Put this information in a proposal format, laying the groundwork of your intended Capstone Project This proposal will be the starting point of Capstone course, where the student will conduct the research according to the proposal document. Please complete your written paper in a 8-10 page (excluding cover and reference page) Word Document with the following restrictions: 12 Point Font, Times New Roman, Double Spaced, 1\" Margins, a cover page that includes the following: o Student Name, Assignment Name, Class Name, Date. Additionally, your written paper should be in complete sentences with proper grammar and spelling. This is a graduate level course, so your paper should be complete and thorough, and should show an elevated level of analysis compared to that of an undergraduate course. Also, make sure your assignment is organized and answers all of the questions asked. Please include headings in your paper to help organize and identify the different components of your paper. AGAIN, DO NOT WRITE IN THE FIRST PERSON. Please use APA citation format, and attach a Cover Page and Reference page to your report (also in APA format). Grading Rubric for Final Project LDR 6933 Total Points: 100 Student Name: ________________________________ Introduction * Introduce the topic and thesis ____/10 Body The Analysis This project should be an analysis of statistical methods and how they are used in management sciences and more specifically leadership situations as a primary outcome. Students should concentrate on showing the application benefits, and contrasting those benefits to other methods that might be used to serve the same purpose in management sciences. The analysis should demonstrate the student's proficiency in critical thinking, resource utilization, and effective communication. ____/45 Choice of Statistical Procedures The choice of statistical procedures should be appropriate for its application including the appropriate set of assumptions. In selecting among procedures, the student must consider a number of factors, such as the following: 1. Whether the student seeks to test for statistically significant differences, degree of association, or both. 2. Whether the student has achieved the nominal, ordinal, or interval level of measurement of the variables being studied. 3. Whether the variables being studied are normally distributed in the population from which they were drawn (and, if not, whether the sample size is large enough to relax this requirement) Recommendations / Conclusions Given a problem, the student should formulate alternate solutions, establish criteria for comparison of alternatives, choose a solution and logically defend the recommendations. In doing so, the student should briefly reiterate ____/10 the study and the thesis on this topic. Identify / list the lessons learned from this study and the inferences drawn.
