A recent nationally representative survey of 1,000 American adults, 430 of them said they approved of the Supreme Court. (a) Construct a 95% confidence interval for the proportion of the American adult population that approves of the Court. (b) Out of 280 Democrats in the sample, 39 approved of the Court. Out of 311 Republicans in the sample, 282 approved of the Court. Conduct a hypothesis test at the .05 significance level to assess whether the proportions of Democrats and Republicans approving of the Court are the same. Be sure to clearly specify your null and alternative hypotheses, show the steps of your calculation and explain briefly what your result tells you about partisans' knowledge on this question. Note: we are ignoring independents (those who don't identify as either Democrats or Repub- licans) so the total sample sizes for these two groups is less than the 1,000 respondents in the entire survey sample]
