A researcher is conducting a study to identify outcomes of a prelicensure BSN program that employ greater hours of simulation and fewer traditional clinical experiences. The study will follow 2 groups prospectively: An intervention BSN program will employ a redesigned curriculum representing heavy use of simulation (60%) and a redistribution of clinical hours, and a Control BSN program will employ the standard clinical hours system (<10% simulation) that has been used in the past. The dependent variable will be NCLEX pass rate (pass/fail). Primary Research Question: Do NCLEX pass rates differ between the intervention and control BSN programs? Perform a sample size estimation using G*Power for a Fisher's exact test, comparing anticipated proportions of NCLEX pass rates for intervention versus control groups. Use power =.80, alpha = .05, two-tailed. Refer to Mancini, LeFlore
