A rocket motor is manufactured by bonding an igniter propellant and a sustainer propellant together inside a metal housing. The shear strength of the bond between the two types of propellant is an important quality characteristic. It is suspected that shear strength is related to the age in weeks of the batch of sustainer propellant. Five observations on shear strength and the age of the corresponding batch of propellant have been collected and are as shown below:
Shear Strength, yi | Age of Propellant(weeks), xi |
2158.70 | 15.50 |
1678.15 | 23.75 |
2316.00 | 8.00 |
2061.30 | 17.00 |
2207.50 | 5.50 |
1. Calculate the sums Sxx , Syy and Sxy
2. Fit a Regression model of the form y = 0 + 1x to the data.
3. Calculate the residual sum of squares of 0 and 1 ie RSS(0, 1)
4. Calculate the unbiased estimate of the common variance i.e. s 2
5. Calculate the standard error of the regression model fitted in part 2 above.
6. Calculate the standard error of the parameters 0 and 1 ie se( 1) and se( 0)
7. Test for significance of the slope parameter 1 at 5% level of significance.
