Water is used in tube side of heat exchanger to cool the stream of organic compound. The inlet and outlet temperature of water stream are 30C and 40C respectively. The linear velocity of water in the tube must be maintained above 1 m/s. The thermophysical property data for both organic compound and water are given at their mean temperatures in the following table: Organic compound Water Density (kg/m) 840 993 Specific heat (kJ/kg.K) 2.093 4.175 Viscosity (kg/m.s) 3.3x104 8x10-4 Thermal conductivity (kcal/h.m.K) 0.0994 0.536 Design the heat exchanger by assuming overall heat transfer coefficient on outside area basis 350 kcal/h.m.C. It is to be noted here that if assumed heat exchanger configuration gives about 10% excess area than that required, it will be acceptable
