A small grocery store has only one cashier. The customers arrive with an average rate of two customers per 10 minutes with a Poisson distribution. The cashier spends 3 minutes on average on each customer and this duration can be modeled by Exponential distribution. If the customers receive the service on a first come first serve basis, determine the following performance measures: The utilization of the cashier (2 marks) The average number of customers waiting in the line and in the system? (3 marks) The average amount of time each customer spends in the line and in the system? (3 marks) Now assume that one more cashier, with identical abilities of the first cashier in terms of the number of customers that he can process within an hour, join the store. In this new situation, on average, how many customers will be waiting in the line? Also, on average, what is the chance that a new customer will have to wait in the line? (7 marks)
