A study is conducted to compare a new treatment with gold standard methods to reduce the high level of LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol. High LDL cholesterol levels raise a patient's heart disease and stroke risk. A matched study is set up such that a random member of each matched pair gets treatment A (new treatment), whereas the other member gets treatment B (standard gold treatment). The patients are assigned to pairs matched on clinical conditions. Patients with very high LDL cholesterol are recruited, and their LDL cholesterol is assessed at the end of the study. LDL cholesterol status is dened as high (+) if it is between 160 to 189 mg/dL and very higher (++) if it is 2189 mg/dL. The data are given in Table 1. Assess the statistical hypothesis of whether there is a signicant difference between the two methods. Outcome Treatment High LDL (+) Very high LDL (4+) A 468 55 B 508 73 Rubric: 1.
