a. The firm experienced a merger whereby they merged with the competitor to gain a larger market share and also enjoy economies of scale. b. The employees resisted the change due to certain reasons some being; Fear of losing their jobs. In the cases of a merger sometimes the redundant positions are scrapped off and also the employees who are not high performer are laid off as the new firm retains the top talents only. The employees, therefore, have to go through a phase of uncertainty. The new business culture. The employee has worked in our firm for a long time was used to the company culture and had gotten comfortable with it. With the merger, came a new business culture which they found hard to identify with and therefore resisted it. Lastly were the new working conditions. All firms have their employee working conditions and in the case, of a merger, a new firm is formed with new working conditions for its employees. The merger came with longer working hours and fewer break times which the employees did not approve of. c. The managers were not able to reduce the resistance.
