A treated ore containing inert solid gangue and copper sulfate is to be leached in a counter-current single stage extractor using pure water to leach CuSO4. The solid charge rate per hour consists of 10 Mg of inert gangue, 400 kg of water and the CuSO4 in the gangue is 12 wt%. The exit wash solution is to contain 92% water (by weight). The underflow is constant at 0.5 kg solution per inert gangue solid. Estimate the overflow solution and the amount of water needed for extraction if it enters with 0.15 wt% CuSO4.
