A turboprop airplane engine consists of three parts: adiabatic compressor, heater and adiabatic turbine. The compressor raises the pressure of ambient air (1 bar, 25C) to 20 bar. The heater raises the temperature of this air to 1500 K, holding pressure constant. This hot, high pressure air drives the turbine and produces work. Assuming that air is an ideal diatomic gas with constant heat capacity, answer the following for two cases: 1) the compressor and turbine are isentropic, 2) the compressor and turbine both have an isentropic efficiency of 80%.

  1. For case 1 how much work is generated per mole of air passing through the system (kJ/mole, as positive number)
