A two-way ANOVA was conducted that examined the effect of age and gender on humor ratings for jokes. The main effect of gender was not significant, F (1, 39) = .044, p = .836. Male candidates (M= 12.7; SD= 5.04) were not rated significantly different than female candidates (M= 13.13; SD= 5.03). Although not statistically significant, female candidates received higher mean ratings. The main effect of age was significant, F (1, 39) = 6.16, p = .017. Young adults (M= 11.38; SD = 4.89) were rated lower than 60+ candidates (M= 14.89; SD= 4.47). The interaction between age and gender was not significant, F (1, 39) = 1.14, p = .292. The effect of age on humor level did not depend on gender identity. Although not significant, the 60+ male candidate had the highest mean (M= 15.56; SD= 3.88) followed by the 60+ female candidate (M= 14.30; SD= 5.08), young adult female (M= 12.23; SD= 5.00), and young adult male (M= 10.36; SD= 4.78)
