The staff in different stores keep in contact with each other and sometimes with customers through emails or tele conversation. The owners travel to the seven locations from time to time for taking stock of accounts and general operations. They also collect required paperwork pertaining to accounts etc during their visits.
During the current pandemic conditions, serving the customers through the available means has been exceptionally challenging. Also, the small business is looking to expand their customer base to increase revenue as the business seems to have reduced in the last few months. Goals and strategies of this small business include selling more products to a higher number of customers, better communication and moving data storage away from paper filing. The company would also like to receive more customer feedback and begin to do more advertising of their products.
Scenario:There is a new Operations manager in the business who wants to introduce various digital technologies for collaborative work in the business. The owners have agreed and asked the new manager to present his/ her ideas. They have also invited a business associate who runs a marketing firm to attend the presentation.
Further to the presentation of the business case, the owners decide to investigate getting a website & social media presence to allow customers to shop from their own homes and to promote the business. When the website is officially given the go-ahead, the owners of ABC Books advise the operations manager to start working on a plan for how to implement it.
They have listed three important stages:
Developing the website. This will need to be completed over the first six months of 2022, with the Marketing Manager providing feedback to the agency. The budget for this has been set at $6,000
Training employees on how to use the website. The HR manager will need to arrange this for all shop floor employees. This should take place during the last three months of development (April-June 2022) and will require enough computers for everyone
Marketing the new website. This should be coordinated by all members of the marketing department who will produce relevant materials (e.g. flyers, posters), and team leaders will need to give shop floor employees instructions on how to do it. For maximum impact, this should take place a month before the website launches in August.
