ABRAHAM LINCOLN BIRTHPLACE National Historical Park or National Historic Site Project - ePortfolio Assignment

Primary Sources:

1. Showcase at least 3 primary source documents within your presentation (which are an essential component to all American Institution general education designated courses).
2. Identify each primary source clearly and prominently by numbering them or some other clear identification (please don't make me hunt for them - make it super easy to identify that this is your first primary source, this is your second, etc).

Multi-Media:

1. This is to be a multi-media presentation - you should use at least 4 different types of multi-media. This could include pictures, maps, appropriate period music, videos, etc.
2. The signature assignment must include data, graphs, charts, and/or a table presenting economic data related to the park.
   • This can count as one of your types of multi-media
   • It should be accompanied by an explanation of what the information is and why it is significant.
   • This should NOT be about tourism. It should be related to the economic impact of the park "back in the day."

Explicitly address each of the following 5 questions sets:

1. What is the historical site? Where is it located (maybe use a map)? What did it look like "back in the day" when the event happened or the person your site is about lived? Give a description (maybe include pictures or a tour) of what you would find at your site both in the past and now. Give an overview of what the site is all about.
   • For example: if you were using Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace - what did the area look like when he was born vs. what does it look like now.
2. What is the historical context of this site (in other words anchor the event within its timeframe to other national and international events)? Maybe create a timeline listing events or come up with other creative ways to present this.
   • For example: if you were using Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace -what were events going on both in the US and around his lifetime
   • list at least 5 non-related national events and 5 non-related international events around your park's significance.

3. Why is it historically important (why did the US think it was so important that they created a historical park/site)? Provide an in-depth description. Does this site have historical implications in our society today?

• For example: if you were using Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace - what did he do that was so noteworthy that the US government thought they should make this a historical park.
• 4. What are the historical implications of what Abraham Lincoln did that we see in our society today?
• What about this historical park is economically significant/important? Use economic terms and theories so you can explain its significance and its impact on socio-economic situations both then and today.
• For example: if you were using Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace - what would be some of the examples of economic impacts Abraham had
• What are the socioeconomic ramifications/impacts that we see in society today from what Abraham Lincoln did?
• Do NOT discuss the tourist money that is brought in today!!!

5. Why should you and I care about this place? If you could pass on one piece of information about this site, what would it be, and we are it important?

• For example: if you were using Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace - why should you and I care about Abraham Lincoln and this specific site.
