Question
Access Solid RTOTNS Portside Council (pdf)and analyse the training needs of the 3 learners provided on page 2. To interpret the learner data, use the
- Not Yet Competent (NYC) training required to perform the job
- Partially Competent (PC) training is required to improve performance
- Competent (C) no training required.
Identify 5 skills areas of highest need (one of these has been provided for you as an example) and record them in the following table:
Table2 Learner needsk
Skill area | Learner 1 | Learner 2 | Learner 3 |
---|---|---|---|
Example: Engaging with and delivering service to customers | NYC | NYC | PC |
|
Task 2: Prepare to meet training needs
You will research appropriate and available training products for Portside Council.
Refer to the Solid RTOTNS Portside Council (pdf)and access the National Register of VET (http://www.training.gov.au/) to answer the following questions.
- What training package(s) are appropriate for the industry, learners' work role and specific learner characteristics?
|
2. What qualification(s) is at the required AQF level? Include qualification code, name, and release number.
|
3. What unit of competence, within the qualification you have chosen, is the priority based on the client and learner's current training needs?
|
Read all instructions carefully and complete all requirements of the assessment. In addition, refer to the checklist that your assessor will use to assess your performance and record your results.
Task 3: Document the learning program overview
In Part 1 you researched Portside Council's industry requirements and their learners' needs by referring to the Solid RTOTNS Portside Council (pdf).
At Solid RTO you also have access to a training and assessment strategy (TAS) for Portside council. You will access this TAS to determine the training context and assessment environment.
Using the information gathered in Part 1 and the TAS document, complete the learning program overview using the following template.
Table3 Learning program overview

Access the existing Solid RTOTAS BSB30719 Portside Council (pdf) and locate information on the training context and assessment environment required for this program. Interpret the information about the training context and training environment and provide specific examples of how this information will be applied to the design of your program. | |
Task 4: Analyse and document the training product
Using your selected training product (training package, qualification and unit of competency), document the learning program by completing the following 2 tables:
- Table 4 Analysis of training package and qualification
- Table 5 Analysis of unit of competence

Task 5: Review training product support material
In this task you'll access, review and interpret information in the available support material relating to your chosen training products.
Scenario
A learner in your learner group has recently had major surgery and is under medication that affects performance. Determine if reasonable adjustment should be applied and record your answers.
- Access the companion volume of your selected qualification and provide the name of the applicable document.
|
2. State whether reasonable adjustment can be applied to the learner and explain what information from the companion volume you used to make this determination (you may use quotes from the companion volume).
|
3.Provide reference to the page where you obtained the information.
|
Part 2: Scenario 2
You have received an email from Myelin at Solid RTO advising Portside Council has employed 5 new Customer Service Officers (CSO's) on a special program for disadvantaged groups and is keen to provide an opportunity for employment.
They require skills in communication. It has been suggested a Certificate I or 2 in the Business training package.
These are the characteristics of the 5 new Customer Service Officers (CSO's):
Table5 Learner characteristics

CSO1 | A 50-year-old who has no formal qualifications and only limited work experience in the family business. Oral communication is poor, and they have trouble with maths. |
CSO2 | A 24-year-old who has had issues at school and dropped out at 14 and since then has been on welfare but is really keen to work. |
CSO3 | A 35-year-old who has wide experience in construction but has been unable to work in that industry since experiencing a back injury 5 years ago. Doesn't understand computers well. Has average skills in language, literacy and numeracy. |

Task 1: Document training program information
Complete the following table to document your learning program for the learner group:
Table6 Analysis of training package and qualification

Task 2: Seek feedback
You are required to seek feedback on your learning program. Specifically, how well the program, qualification and unit selection meets the client's and learner's needs.
Email your supervisor for feedback on whether the training products you've chosen meet the specified requirements and identified needs based on the information provided in the scenario email.
Use the Solid RTOEmail Template (dotx) to write your email.
In your email, include a copy of the information you have recorded in table 6 (Part 2 Task 1).
Ensure that your email uses appropriate language for communicating with your supervisor/mentor (Myelin).
Submit a copy of your email.
Task 3: Analyse feedback and identify changes
Myelin has received feedback from Portside Council saying they would prefer their students to undertake a Certificate I level course in Foundation skills prior to undertaking a business services course.
Identify an appropriate qualification and detail the required changes using the following table.
Table7 Analysis of training package and qualification
