According to Boxofficemojo.com, the average ticket price in the United States is $8.66. Fifteen years ago in 2001, the average ticket price was $5.66. Prices tend to rise over a 15 year time period due to inflation. Every year since 1993 the average ticket price has increased. Within the last 40 years there has been one period of time in which ticket prices did not continue to increase. From 1988-1992 the average ticket price did not increase, a few years it decreased by a few cents.

If ticket prices continue to increase at this rate I would think that movie attendance will drop because not very many people will pay $15 to see a 2 hour movie.
