Success depends on several variables, including leadership style, follower qualities, and situational features (Charry 2012.) I always informed the officers under my supervision that flexibility and the positive quality of their attitudes would assist them and the supervisor on duty that day with different stressful situations that could occur throughout their shifts. There would also be days when a different supervisor would be working with them, and they would need to adjust to how that person leads. According to participative theory, good leaders encourage participation and contributions from group members and help group members feel relevant and committed to the decision-making process (Lamb 2013.) Before any shift, I always had a muster with my officers and encouraged feedback from all of them regarding any pressing issues we may face throughout the day. No one was ever left out. I looked at my unit as a chain with many different links. The input we received from one another only helped to strengthen and galvanize the chain.
