According to Huber & Joseph (2022), "A key characteristic of an emotionally intelligent team is establishment of norms to guide team member behaviors" (pg. 160). Nurse leaders and managers can utilize collaboration and organizational trust to build effective teams in nursing. Teamwork affects clinical performance and patient safety. When the healthcare team has organizational trust and collaboration, the quality of patient care increases and the risk for patient injury decreases. (Huber & Joseph, 2022, pg. 158). Collaboration amongst team members allows for a comprehensive approach to safe and effective care. When team members collaborate, they provide a more supportive environment that leads to accurate treatment plans and improved patient outcomes. Organizational trust is one of the most critical elements to building effective teams. Team members need to build trust in one another in order to work efficiently and effectively together.
