Activity 1: Classic Lays
In this activity, you will use StatKey to conduct two different randomization tests. These data are not built into StatKey, so you will need to "Edit Data" to enter them manually. For each part of this question set, use the following research question:
Research Question: Do more than 30% of all American citizens like Classic Lays?
Activity 1_A:
In a random sample of 165 American citizens, 53 said they like Classic Lays. Using the five steps from the online notes, conduct a randomization test to address the research question above. Be sure to include your relevant StatKey output.
Activity 1_A:
Step 1: Determine what type of test you need to conduct and write the hypotheses.
Activity 1_A:
Step 2: Use StatKey to construct a randomization distribution under the assumption that the null hypothesis is true. Take at least 5000 resamples.
Activity 1_A:
Step 3: Use the randomization distribution to find the p-value. Include a screenshot of your distribution with the p value in red and a statement identifying your p value.
Activity 1_A:
Step 4: Decide if you should reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis.
Activity 1_A:
Step 5: State a real-world conclusion in relation to the original research question.
Activity 1_B:
In a random sample of 1650 American Citizens, 530 said they like Classic Lays. Using the five steps from the online notes, conduct a randomization test to address the research question above. Be sure to include your relevant StatKey output.
Activity 1_B:
Step 1: Determine what type of test you need to conduct and write the hypotheses.
Activity 1_B:
Step 2: Use StatKey to construct a randomization distribution under the assumption that the null hypothesis is true. Take at least 5000 resamples.
Activity 1_B:
Step 3: Use the randomization distribution to find the p-value. Include a screenshot of your distribution with the p value in red and a statement identifying your p value.
Activity 1_B:
Step 4: Decide if you should reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis.
Activity 1_B:
Step 5: State a real-world conclusion in relation to the original research question.
Activity 1_C:
Compare your results from Activity 1_A and Activity 1_B. The hypotheses and sample proportions should have been the same in each part. Explain why the p-value decreased when the sample size increased.
