Recall from Chapter 14 the qualities that make a good influencer ● Reach: The quantity of people to whom an influencer is able to deliver a message. ● Credibility: The level of trust given by followers based on the perceived knowledge or expertise of the influencer. ● Authenticity: Good influencers genuinely believe in the brand that they are promoting, and what it stands for. If influencers are not sincere, they risk alienating their audiences ● Activity: Influencers must be active on social media, publishing content daily or weekly to their platforms. ● Engaging: Influencers must engage with their followers. When followers mention the influencer or ask questions, it's important to acknowledge followers by liking, or commenting back. Influencers are often defined and categorized by their reach or the number of followers. ● Nano-influencers: 1 to 1,000 followers. These influencers are typically among the average social media user who can use their power to influence their close-knit followers like family and friends. ● Micro-influencers: 10,000 to 50,000 followers. These influencers hold a smaller reach with very high levels of influencer and engagement among their followers. ● Mid-tier influencers: 50,000 to 500,000 followers. These influencers are between a micro and macro influencer, and is looked upon as an industry expert in their niche category. ● Macro-influencers: 500,000 to 1,000,000 followers. These influencers have a very large reach and use their influencer status to generate income. Macro influencers often warrant representation from a talent manager. ● Mega-influencers: 1,000,000+ followers. These influencers are typically celebrity influencers with a very large following. They often collaborate with brands on a paidper-post basis. Instructions Have students: 1. Identify a social media influencer that falls into each of the five categories above. 2. a PowerPoint presentation with 1-2 slides for each of the five influencers that you select. On each slide, include and evaluate the following: ○ Name of the influencer ○ Picture of the influencer and social media account please mention which social media account you took and talking about○ Influencer's profession ○ Number of followers on each account ○ Images of 3-5 recent posts ○ How they became an influencer/developed their influence (past activities and events) ○ How they use their influence now (product or brand promotions or other causes). ■ Note any specific brands or products that they promote ○ Which of the five influencer qualities listed above do you think makes this influencer a good influencer and why? ○ Which of the five qualities listed above makes this influencer not so good and why? ■ Perhaps you feel this influencer is not credible, authentic, or they don't actively engage with their audience.
