• Continuous improvement relates to change and to taking advantage of opportunities. It is a process or series of processes where performance is examined and evaluated with a view to change. It should result in stopping unproductive work activities and implementing processes that are productive and achieve organisational goals. Innovation and creativity will contribute to the development of plans for continuous improvement.

• To support continuous improvement it is necessary to examine and evaluate:
• performance and sustainability of systems and processes
• the value of current supply chains
• the efficiency and effectiveness of operational procedures
• product and service delivery systems
• methods currently used to collect performance data, to examine the data and to report on performance
• variance with regard to key results areas (KRAs) in the organisation
• changing trends and opportunities (through appropriate research)
• consultation with experts to consider technological innovations and possible opportunities for e-commerce

You can address these things in terms of the organisation for which you currently work or, if that is not practical, you can address continuous improvement in generic/ general terms relating to business operations.
