Adrian and Mabel would hold their wedding ceremony in October 2020 in the Grand Hotel, a 5-star hotel in Hong Kong. They planned to invite lots of relatives and friends to attend their wedding ceremony. They chose the Grand Hotel because it had a very large ballroom that could cater up to 1,000 guests.
In January 2020, Adrian went to the hotel to make reservation and paid 20% of the total cost as deposit for the ballroom. In March 2020, a fire accident broke out in the hotel and as a result most of the hotel was destroyed in the fire. The ballroom reserved by Adrian was completely burnt down and could no longer be used. Grand Hotel informed Adrian that he could still hold his wedding ceremony in a nearby 3-star hotel which was owned by the same holding company of Grand Hotel. However, the ballroom there was much smaller and could only hold 200 guests. Adrian also found that the facilities there were very old and poor.
Grand Hotel refused to pay back the deposit to Adrian. Advise Adrian whether he could cancel the booking and get back all the deposit.
