Aflac inc. is an American insurance incorporation that is known to be the largest provider of supplemental insurance in USA. However, Aflac is also to known to have a high employee turnover rate, by which 15% of employees stick around for an average of one year and then resign. This issue had negative results on the incorporation, by which a higher budget had been allocated for recruitment, training and development of employees. Su, who is the human resource manager at Aflac, wanted to understand the reasons that lead to this high turnover rate, so she conducted a series of personal face to face interviews with a sample of 20 employees, out of the 100 that resigned. Her research sample was chosen a randomly from a list that she was provided with. Su made inferences after the analysis of these interviews, and came up with conclusions in this regard. She realized that most of the employees, who left, felt they were felt no engagement at work. That is, they did not feel passionate about their jobs, and had no sense of commitment towards the organization. Delving deeper into the sense of lack of engagement, she found some causes among which are the rigidity in dealing with employees and lack of adequate communication that occurs at Aflac. Su wrote a proposal to submit to Aflac’s headquarters about this issue. Her proposal included an action plan that would alleviate this issue in case the headquarters were interested in that. In addition, she proposed to repeat the study after a year, if changes in some practices at the company occurred.
