After the legislation passed in May 2002 it was allowed to label irradiated foods as pasteurized. However, many consumers appear to find the term and concept 'irradiated' much more acceptable when applied to meat than 'pasteurized' . As one consumer stated, "Pasteurized steak, yuk."
