Mary (M) learned to cook from her parents and grandparents while growing up. She has always enjoyed creating new recipes and meals with ethnic flair and fusion from both sides of her family, and gets many compliments when entertaining friends at holidays and special gatherings.

Mary met Jules (J) at a holiday party last year. J grew up in the trades - his father was a carpenter, and his mother a long time electrician. M and J have been dating and frequently socialize with others that share their passion for "making new things."

M and J's parents have instilled a sense of caution in both of them. Both know that future business activities involve business and personal risks, and both know it is important seek the advice of an attorney before acting on any business plans.

M and J have been dating for some months. They often meet up for meals at different restaurants, and compare the menus and dining options. They both like pizza, and they are always in search of "the perfect pizza pie just like M's grandmother used to make." M invites J over to her place and makes pizza for dinner, showing J how she was taught. "I can't ever seem to get the crust just right" M laments. When J asks how it is different than what her grandmother made, M responds, "its these modern electric ovens. G'ma made them old style using a brick and wood burning stove."

J wants to impress M with his tool making skills, and he goes to work in his shop at home. Using recycled and surplus parts he has collected over a long time, he makes a brick and stone oven on his patio with a twist: it combines electric components for quick ignition of wood fuel for the crust, but also uses electrical induction and microwave components for fast cooking of ingredients, thus reducing the "carbon footprint" and using very little wood and cleverly designed stone ducting to get just the right flavours and crispy-ness M has described.

J shows M his new oven, and M excitedly makes a pie for dinner. "Now this is what pizza from the old country tastes like!" exclaims M. M and J agree no one seems to make a pizza like this anywhere, and realize they've together made something that could be the cornerstone of a business together.
